'Grow Heart' a collaboration between Ray and Blazinspace at Vermillion Gallery

Hey-o Seattle!! My dearest friend Blazinspace aka John Theroux and I have put our hearts and minds together at Vermillion Art Gallery and Bar to bring you our collaboration 'Grow Heart' opening Thursday, January 12 at Vermillion Gallery for the first Capitol Hill Art Walk 2023 from 5-8 pm

This installation is a deep expression of love, friendship, rebirth and renewal and stays up through the end of the month. Join us next Thursday in celebration of Blazinspace and Ray in collaboration: you can call me Ray now and forever ❤️‍🔥

    Show Description:
Grow Heart is a garden of light and shadows emanating from treeform, crystallized structures knit by artist Ray (nee Kelly Fleek), with visuals created by Blazinspace. The artists were inspired by the root-like structure of the human circulatory system, and the resiliency of the human heart. They provide this poem, written by Blazinspace, to explain the light art installation:

    'My heart is Here
    For You
    Planted within the Tree,
    Growing Boundless, in Space
Rays of Light, Blaze a new Path
    They Breathe
    Here
    For You
    A Boundless Heart'

    A quote from the artists:
“Compassionate action has a regenerative quality to it. 'Attack with Love' has been a motivating phrase for me, but I was still challenged with learning how to love myself. So I spent some time learning how to attack myself with love. I found an answer; Grow heart.” - Blazinspace

Thank you to Diana Adams for making this show possible ❤️‍🔥

Yes. I have finally answered your request to put my work on Instagram. Please follow me on Instagram for new work, news, musings, and more.

You can find me here: https://www.instagram.com/kellyfleek

I'm constantly creating and showing work somewhere, but rarely sharing it online. Silly, I know, but here we are...

This pandemic has slowed down all other aspects of my life —music, PR work, gallery openings, etc. Seemed like a great time to focus on getting some of the things done that are always tomorrow-things.

    Cocoon: small transformations
    January 23 - February 27, 2021

'Cocoon: small transformations' embraces this time of isolation, and how we look again at our unique realities: how to hold the heart in the absence of physical interactions —we have been called to look again at how and where we place our energies and focus in our lives, shifting the lens to smaller joys.

    --

Kelly Fleek is a multi-disciplinary artist and member of the local electro-rock band The Spider Ferns. She is also the maven behind Lo Flux Media PR in Seattle. Fleek's contemporary textile art has been featured with Vogue Knitting Live, LUSIO festival, Kollabora Magazine (NYC), Stackedd Magazine, The Seattle Times, Three Imaginary Girls, Respect My Region, Whatcom Art Museum, and more...

Kelly Fleek works in sculpture, painting, textiles, installation, photography, and music. Her work is the sum of a love affair with the commonality in the smallest and largest elements of life. Her wearable textiles ask individuals to touch them, to become a sculpture. From her series 'Nature Drag: wearing nature, being nature' or her latest series, 'Cocoon: small transformations', these pieces reflect Fleek's interpretation of the natural forms in and around us all. Wearing and viewing this work activates our inseparable connections to our shared surroundings.
