Baba Yaga
Baba Yaga
2021

Hemp cordage, gold crochet cotton, coconut fiber coated floral wire, borax crystals, antique sewing machine pulley.

'Baba Yaga' —this piece is the mood of my pandemic isolation: time spent quietly working, locked away from my former life due to the pandemic, but also happy and content to have time to create, grieve, reexamine my goals and focus for life post covid. In the folklore of my Polish heritage, Baba Yaga has only one foot, represented in this work by an enormous gold Turkey tail mushroom and an antique sewing machine pulley —both emblems of my woodland lifestyle and textile work. Borax crystals form the shimmering trails that draw you into her cozy basket-like dwelling.
